Covid19 Updates

Being a small business Covid19 has had a massive Impact on our business. The Majority of my customers have closed and understandably not looking to invest in new equipment. Not to worry we are still open and self isolating at home but support has not been compromised in fact I am going to use it as an oppurtunity to improve our website with a new online shop. I am also looking into new finance options for the smaller products. 

I want to add more technical information to my website and in doing this I think the easiest way is to give something back to my customers. Vauxhall Insignia SPS using Autel Passthru

Following on from my last post regarding Vauxhall Opel GDS software one of my customers sent me this write up. 
I was asked to go out and look at a 2011 Vauxhall Insignia, which by all accounts had issues with the rear end electrics on the car.

On arrival at the garage, I found out the background to the issues. Along with the abnormalities it was displaying. There had evidently been water ingress into the rear, which had tracked down the loom. This had in turn corroded two pins off completely that terminated at the power tailgate module.

Somehow or other we still had comms with the power tailgate module, but limited information after that. The customer already had a new module ready for fitment. So I plugged it in, and at this point we no longer had comms or the ability to do anything with the new module.

So now I had two options with regards getting the module online. I had time on my side that particular day, so I opted to go the manufacturer Pass-Thru route. Having not used Pass-Thru before, and only having seen clips. I thought it best to have time, and a helping hand! I decided to call Alex of Impact Diagnostics. Alex has been fantastic with supply of numerous tools when I went it alone late last year. He has also gone way beyond that, with help and advice over the phone ever since!

I got Alex dialled in over Team Viewer on to my laptop, and we went through the process together. This involved getting logged into the dealer portal. Buying the necessary ’slot’ we needed to carry out module coding. Then on to the business of correct vehicle I.D. Once this was all done, I was guided through the menu system by Alex. We located the specific module, and ticked the relevant boxes as to the task we wanted to perform. A few short moments, and percentage complete icon bars later. We were in business. The unit was coded, and operational. A couple of minor “comfort” settings done with the tailgate buttons on the car. For how the customer needed the tailgate to work, and that was it!

The process was very straightforward, and on reflection actually cheaper than the other tooling option I could have used. I feel much happier in using Pass-Thru again now. The support given was needed, and I thank Alex for that! A great learning exercise, and time well spent to make life easier in the future.

Vauxhall GDS2 Installation

I get asked regularly how to make the most of the J2534 passthru device supplied with the Autel Maxisys Pro so I thought I would screenshot reinstalling the GDS2 software on my new demonstration laptop. The whole process works on best using Internet Explorer.

Firstly you need to login too the service box website. http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/pages/index.jsp

Once logged in you need to go onto the Technical Information tab and select the Opel Vauxhall Chevrolet subscription tab. It will then show you any current subscriptions or give option to purchase. ​

Very important make sure you select the correct brand at the top, you can then scroll down and purchase the required length of GDS2 subs. I bought 12 Months for 140Euros

It should now show you how long you have remaining on your subscription. You click the Tis button and it will open up another window.

It will not give the option for GDS2, at this point you need to make sure Java is installed. ​

You can download the latest Java version on the link above, once installed you click on the Start GDS2 button. This is where using Internet Explorer is important. What you need to do now is follow through with the installation keep on pressing yes and allow etc. 

If you are using a passthru Autel Device or similar you can skip the GM MDI2 Drivers.

Once GDS2 Install is done you will then need to download the individual software packs for the brands you purchased. ​

Once downloaded you then need to install all apps, so you just click the install button and all models will be installed to your GDS2 software. ​

You are now ready to go, you need to make sure the correct Passthru J2534 Drivers are installed. I have bought 12 months license but it says 29 Days this is normal. You can open GDS2 from the icon on desktop for 29 days and then you will need to open from the website to renew the lease.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL OF THE CHARGING PROCESS
PulseTronic, which is made in Telwin, is our answer for charging/maintaining traction batteries used in Automotive applications, no matter whether for motorcycles, cars, lorries, heavy machines, etc.

This sophisticated technology, which can be used to charge all types of 6/12/24V battery, and more specifically WET, GEL, AGM, MF, SPIRAL, START/STOP batteries, is a reference for all of Telwin's professional products.

​PulseTronic technology uses intelligent monitoring and special wave forms (impulses) to maintain the optimal charge without generating overheating or making modifications that damage the chemical structure of the battery, even over extended periods (e.g. vehicle maintenance during periods of non-use).PulseTronic technology also pays special attention to safety by creating and defining the correct conditions to fully protect the on-board electronics of the vehicle while charging/maintaining the battery and without being disconnected from the vehicle.

You could be dealing with vehicles already that have ADAS as standard but are you ready for ADAS calibration?

Vehicles fitted with ADAS technology will have cameras mounted centrally on the windscreen. Advanced ADAS systems can also include cameras and sensors in the front and rear bumpers and wing mirrors for full 360 degree applications. the number of scenarios where work is completed that requires recalibration of these systems is endless and failing to do so can result in customers leaving your garage in danger.
